Methods for Increasing Computer Speed

All of it was a haze now. At one point, everything on your computer ran smoothly and quickly; it took almost no time to start up, and you could quickly move from one task to the next. Then a turn for the worst occurred. Now, it takes an eon to boot up, program downloads and updates move at a glacial rate, and your screen frequently freezes up. You might wonder, “What the heck is up with that?” Regrettably, this is a common problem experienced by people everywhere. It’s annoying enough that it prevents you from getting anything done on your computer, whether using it for work, school, playing games, or just surfing the web and sending emails.

You might be thinking that is ridiculous. Or maybe you’re scratching your head and wondering what happened to your once-shining computer or laptop. Why has there been such a sudden drop in efficiency? The slowing down of our computers is due to various factors. However, it’s not all bad news. The typical user has much leeway in optimizing their PCs for speed. That’s just fine. Let’s stop chatting and get down to business.

As more and more users acquire and install software on their computers, many applications will launch automatically each time the machine boots up. Common sense says this serves no useful purpose, as it prevents you from running the programs you want to run at the time (unless it is the software you want to use right after your computer starts up). I realize that last phrase rambled. Curious as to how to prevent these applications from launching automatically? Awesome. The question never crossed my mind.

The procedure is as follows:

Start by clicking the Windows button (or “start” for short), then type “msconfig” into the box that opens, and then click the msconfig icon. From there, select “Startup” from the left pane.
• Select any applications you don’t wish to launch with Windows, then restart your computer.
• The ‘agree’ or ‘apply’ button is all left to do.

Are you prepared to hear a second fantastic recommendation? Think you can manage it? So, here it is. Investigate whether or if adding more memory is an option for your computer. This may sound like an essential tip for speeding up a PC, but trust me; it’s one of the most effective ways to instantly improve your computer’s performance. This is especially true if your laptop or computer is a few years old. You may also rapidly inspect the current RAM usage of your machine. Simply press “ctrl-alt-delete” to open the task manager, then select the “performance” tab. Increasing RAM should be considered if the system continuously uses more than 70% of available RAM.

I have one more suggestion if we’re talking about easy ways to speed up computers. If your computer runs slowly, you should check the number of open programs. When surfing the web, it’s not uncommon for people to spontaneously open seven or more windows. Also, you very certainly have an IM client and an email client open at the same time. For example, the media player and the game you were playing not too long ago.

The solution is as simple as taking a step back to assess the situation and closing any unnecessary applications. Again, I know this sounds like really essential advice, and it is, but once I started doing it myself, I was able to close a ton of unused programs and get my computer running like new.

Disk Defragmenter is another useful Windows program to help your computer regain lost performance.

The defragmenter is an integral part of the Windows operating system, a significant plus. Data becomes fragmented over your hard disk over time, making it more difficult for your computer to find and reassemble file fragments; thus, running a defragmenter every so often is a good idea. Your computer will slow down as a result of this. You may make Windows find data on your hard drive more quickly by using the defragmenter program to re-align the data that has been fragmented. The end effect is a speedier computer because it takes less time to locate data.

Disk Defragmenter’s operation is as follows:

Start by clicking the Windows button (or “start”), then double-click All Programs.
To use Disk Defragmenter, go to the Accessories menu, then the System Tools submenu.

The defragmenter can also run regularly to ensure your hard drive is never overly fragmented. In my opinion, you should spend some time testing out this handy gadget.

While discussing useful Windows tools, I’d like to draw your attention to the Disc Cleanup program. This valuable program can be found in the Windows system tools folder. Disk cleanup’s usefulness lies in removing temporary internet files, downloaded files, and cookies from your internet browsing sessions, among other things.

The disk cleanup tool can also eliminate unused Windows components and old system restore points, freeing up additional storage space.

A bloated and corrupt Windows registry is a leading cause of computer performance degradation. The registry is a database that stores information about your machine. Whenever you install new software or games or connect a new piece of hardware to your computer (such as a printer or keyboard), more data is added to the registry. Data remnants remain in the registry even after the program, hardware, and games have been uninstalled. Over time, the registry becomes cluttered and confused, decreasing its efficiency.

When registries become bloated, many people notice glaring computer changes, such as increased boot times, decreased software program loading times, and an annoying increase in blue screen errors, frozen screens, and system crashes. Experts in personal computers claim that as many as 94% of desktops and laptops have registry issues.

But have hope! Fixing registry issues is not an impossible task. You might be wondering why that is the case. This is because you can now find high-quality registry cleaning software that will speed up your computer after only a few minutes of work.
