Allegheny Health Network

Allegheny Health Network is an extensive regional healthcare system with hospitals and health and wellness centers as its core operation. It is home to a research institute, employing physician organizations, home infusion services, and group purchasing organizations.

Health + Wellness Pavilions provides patients with comprehensive medical services under one roof, making AHN’s western Pennsylvania service footprint even easier to access. There are six of these Pavilions.

Allegheny Valley Hospital (AVH)

Allegheny Valley Hospital, situated in Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania, specializes in family medicine and geriatric psychiatry care for its 32 reviews from consumers.

The facility provides high-quality, personalized health care to residents in its region and has earned recognition for excellence in patient satisfaction. In addition, this teaching hospital serves Drexel University College of Medicine, Temple University School of Medicine, and Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine as teaching institutions.

Hempfield and McCandless hospitals also participate in the American Hospital Network Neighborhood Hospital Initiative, an ongoing national effort to create more community-centric hospitals. Both facilities feature 24-hour emergency rooms and outpatient services for their local populations.

AHN is one of the largest integrated delivery networks in Western Pennsylvania, serving more than 19,000 patients each day across its 14 hospitals. It employs more than 2,800 affiliated physicians who include nationally acclaimed experts. Additionally, the network operates ambulatory surgery centers, engaged physician organizations, home and community-based health services, research institutes, group purchasing organizations, and more.

Established in 1881, Allegheny Valley Hospital began as an infirmary serving the residents of Allegheny City near a coal mine. Over time, it expanded into an X-shaped six-story hospital capable of housing 500 patients at once and featuring modern operating rooms and laboratories – and today serves as home to the Citizen’s School of Nursing, which continues educating nurses today.

Allegheny General Hospital (AGH)

Allegheny General Hospital (AGH), situated in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is an internationally-recognized medical facility. It serves the Pittsburgh metropolitan area and a five-state region consisting of western Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, northwestern West Virginia, and eastern Kentucky. Furthermore, AGH boasts the first hospital-based emergency aeromedical transport system known as LifeFlight.

In October 1988, during an abdominal aortic aneurysm repair procedure, a patient under Dr. John Brader suffered visceral injuries, ultimately leading to her death on the operating table. According to Diamond and Magovern’s accounts of what transpired during surgery, Dr. John Brader may have delegated too much responsibility to his resident, failing to take control of the situation when necessary. Based on these criticisms of Brader’s surgical judgment and these comments from Diamond and Magovern, respectively, Diamond recommended not advancing him from provisional staff status membership status and went to attending staff membership status membership membership membership status membership status membership status membership status membership status membership status membership status membership status membership by the Committee of Concern (CC).

AGH operates three extensive sports medicine facilities on its campus and serves as the official healthcare provider for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Riverhounds. It also works regional LifeFlight for air ambulance service across a 150-mile catchment area. Furthermore, AGH serves as an essential educational center in its region, offering graduate medical education programs through Graduate Medical Education Pittsburgh; additionally, it is an affiliate teaching affiliate with the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Since 2013, ownership of AGH has been held by Highmark Health after original owners Allegheny Health Education Research Foundation (AHERF) collapsed in one of the most prominent nonprofit bankruptcy cases ever.

Canonsburg Hospital

Canonsburg Hospital in North Strabane Township, Pennsylvania, is part of the AHN network. Canonsburg provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient diagnostic and treatment capabilities, boasting 104 beds and offering medical, surgical, diagnostic, diagnostic, and outpatient treatment capabilities along with emergency care, ambulatory care, medical imaging pathology services, and rehabilitation capabilities – Canonsburg provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient diagnostic and treatment capabilities.

Established in 2013, Allegheny Health Network serves patients across 30 Pennsylvania counties and parts of New York, Ohio, and West Virginia. Their network includes eight hospitals and over 200 primary and specialty care practices across these regions – its flagship academic medical center being Allegheny General Hospital on Pittsburgh’s North Side; other hospitals within this network include Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights, Canonsburg Hospital in Canonsburg, Forbes Hospital Monroeville Forbes Hospital Jefferson Hills Saint Vincent Erie Westfield Memorial Hospital New York.

AHN offers comprehensive medical malls for six Health + Wellness Pavilions, providing patients with convenient access to retail, preventive, and diagnostic services under one roof. The first pavilion opened its doors in Wexford in 2014; other pavilions can be found in Peters (Washington County), Bethel Park (Allegheny County), and North Fayette Township (Allegheny County). In addition, AHN serves as the official healthcare provider of the Pittsburgh Pirates and many high school and collegiate athletic teams in western Pennsylvania.

Forbes Hospital

Forbes Hospital, located in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, and offering 315 beds to residents from eastern Allegheny County, Westmoreland, and Armstrong Counties, serves a comprehensive array of surgical and medical services, including cardiology, diabetes management, diagnostic imaging services, emergency medicine services, and obstetrics – as well as outpatient treatments and services.

Forbes is home to the AHN Cardiovascular Institute, one of the region’s premier heart surgery and coronary artery bypass centers. Furthermore, Forbes features an advanced joint and spine center dedicated to treating spinal deformities and sports injuries. Its Advanced Wound Healing Center specializes in healing difficult-to-heal wounds caused by diabetes, surgery, or trauma injuries.

The hospital’s maternity unit ranks among the top 10% nationwide and features a Level II neonatal nursery, two dedicated cesarean section rooms, and an array of patient amenities and services. Furthermore, this hospital hosts Pennsylvania’s first new OB program/unit constructed in three decades.

The maternity unit has a dedicated team offering personalized care during labor and recovery. It receives various benefits and opportunities to develop, such as competitive medical benefits, fitness trackers, and virtual behavioral health support – plus, they have access to a staff lounge equipped with massage chairs! In addition, they have access to other programs designed to balance work life with family life.

Jefferson Hospital

The Jefferson Hospital in Festus, Missouri, offers 251 beds for emergency and medical services, same-day sick visits, and vaccinations by board-certified specialists in various specialties. There’s an ambulatory surgery center, outpatient medical building onsite, diagnostic imaging equipment, and laboratory services – not to mention one of the most extensive nursing programs in Festus!

It is a patient-centric and physician-led healthcare network with hospitals, Health + Wellness Pavilions, and primary and specialty care offices that offer coordinated health and wellness services from start to finish. At AHN’s core is its mission: Health for All – which they strive for daily. Recognized nationwide for excellence across its programs (Wills Eye Hospital was second in Philadelphia for Ophthalmology services while MossRehab Magee Rehabilitation was seventh).

AHN operates the largest hospital network in southwestern Pennsylvania, and its specialty programs have become nationally renowned for their high-quality and cost-effective care. Along with eight hospitals, it also runs an AHN Research Institute; Allegheny Clinic; group purchasing organization; medical and surgical nursing education program and simulation training for medical, nursing, and health care students as well as home health infusion centers, health maintenance organization (HMO) membership plan as well as physician practice management firm services.

Saint Vincent Hospital

Saint Vincent Hospital has an expansive history of caring for people. One of the first hospitals to address and treat HIV/AIDS, it became an epicenter for activism during its outbreak; poet Edna St. Vincent Millay took her middle name after an uncle passed from AIDS. Studio a+i has designed a Memorial at Saint Vincent to commemorate those lost to this devastating epidemic and honor all caregivers and activists dedicated to improving health care for LGBT individuals – such as members of ACT UP.

In the early 1980s, O’Toole Hospital established an intensive medical AIDS program. As the largest AIDS ward in the nation, this helped increase patient lifespans through cutting-edge medications like protease inhibitors.

In the late 1990s, St. Vincent Catholic Medical Center was at the forefront of AIDS research and participated in clinical trials for several new drugs. Additionally, it developed numerous programs to aid the homeless living with HIV as well as providing a full range of primary and specialty care for those living with HIV/AIDS – in fact, it was then one of the primary providers in San Francisco providing HIV direct and integrated care services – and later became one of the largest, most comprehensive health systems within its region – today St Vincent Catholic Medical Centers is recognized among one of these sizeable complete health systems within their metropolitan region.
